Prologue · Joie de vivre

The most joyful wedding I have ever filmed.

Fanny and Thomas found me online. We had never met before their wedding, but after a few hours on the shores of Lake Annecy, I knew this day would be unlike any other.

There was the late-June heat, the light on the water and, above all, a close-knit family around them. Fanny and Thomas are both quite reserved, yet the way they looked at each other and the words spoken by their loved ones revealed something deeply felt. From the ceremony to the dance floor, smiles rarely left anyone’s face.

Cinema was the thread running through the wedding. Film references on the tables, nods in the speeches, the music: everything spoke of their love of movies. I carried that theme into the edit, shaping the narrative, texture and colour as if this were their own film.

Sequence 01 · The arrival

Fanny arrives across the lake.

The outdoor ceremony takes place at Les Cassines, right beside the lake. Thomas is waiting on the jetty as Fanny arrives in a small boat, accompanied by her father and brothers. They see each other for the first time there, in front of their families, with the lake and mountains behind them.

The setting designed by Camille from C’Mon Rêve, together with Valérie’s flowers from L’Âme en Fleurs, creates their world without ever overpowering the landscape.

Sequence 02 · The words

Laughter, tears and so much love.

Speeches unfold throughout the day. Fanny’s brothers bring back childhood memories and make everyone laugh. Her parents’ words land more quietly. Her mother is often moved, sometimes in tears, with a mixture of pride and tenderness that says everything about this close-knit family.

The film grew out of that contrast: their reserve on one side, and all the love being expressed around them on the other.

Sequence 03 · Taking the plunge

A record, fondue, then the lake.

In the middle of a heatwave, the cocktail hour takes a rather perfect turn: guests choose records from the vinyl bar run by Dance Police, dance, eat fondue and then race to jump into the lake. The dives filmed in slow motion are still some of my favourite shots from the day.

The vinyl bar instantly gives everyone something to share. It is the kind of idea I happily recommend: guests join in, share their songs and the atmosphere builds almost by itself. Even fondue in thirty-degree heat begins to make perfect sense.

Sequence 04 · Just the two of them

When the celebration gives way to quiet.

Among the games, riddles and groups created to break the ice, we keep a quieter moment on the jetty. Pierre-Luc Delage from Bandoulière Photographie takes the photographs while I film Fanny and Thomas close to the water.

That is where their connection comes through most naturally. Nothing elaborate is needed: a few looks, their hands finding each other, the late-afternoon light and the lake behind them.

Sequence 05 · The closing credits

The sun goes down, the party lifts.

After dinner, prepared on site by Les Cassines, Dance Police takes over again. The speeches, surprises and film references give way to a dance floor that stays full from beginning to end.

In the edit, I wanted to keep that energy without losing the more intimate moments. The film-inspired music, the texture of the image and the colour grade carry their theme all the way to the closing credits. As someone who loves cinema, I could hardly have asked for a better playground.
